A Texture Analysis Approach to Corrosion Image Classiication

A method is described for the classiication of corrosion images using texture analysis methods. Two morphologies are considered: pit formation and cracking. The analysis is done by performing a wavelet decomposition of the images, from which energy feature sets are computed. A transform that turns the wavelet features into rotation invariant ones is introduced. The classiication is performed with a Learning Vector Quan-tization network and comparison is made with Gaussian and k-NN clas-siiers. The eeectivity of the method is shown by tests on a set of 398 images. R esum e Une methode est expliqu ee pour la classiication des images corro-sives par des methodes d'analyse de texture. On consid ere deux morphologies: formation de cavit es et ssuration. L'analyse est faite par une d ecomposition en ondelettes, de laquelle des caracteristiques d' energie sont calcul ees. Une transformation est introduite qui rends les caracter-istiques d'ondelettes invariants contre rotation. La classiication est faite avec \Learning Vector Quantization" et pour comparison, des classiica-teurs Gaussien et k-NN. L'eecacit e de la methode est d emontr e par des experiments avec une collection de 398 images.
